27.05.2023I do think it certainly helps, especially if done well. I for one love that you can essentially treat the stories of the first several need for speed games as one long branching story

23.06.2022This was such a surprising and insightful video, I feel I have to play through Fight Night: Champion and FIFA 17 for their stories. Thanks for that.My contribution to this topic comes from Redout, but it's a minor addition to the experience. As you unlock vehicles from other teams, it can reveal the lore/history of the team's creation, their philosophy in winning and their progression, unlocked along your progression to being "the best redout racer", as the career mode boasts. Text from the EMP Blast and Energy Drainer powerups and their political impact on the SRRL races, reflect the small tricks Formula 1 teams throughout history would do to improve their odds of winning which was usually coming from smaller teams trying to find an edge against the bigger, wealthier teams like Ferrari. When choosing an event to compete in, the text for each event is mostly benign when describing the track and the event; but once you get to Tier 4 tracks they pull the rug from under you. It goes onto saying stuff like "there are kids who want to grow up to be like you", "you've been doing this for so long, you can't quit now" and "you're looking so pale, you should rest"; it makes an allegory on what it takes and is like to be a F1 driver, mirroring back to that tagline to the career mode: "become the best redout racer". And given how much it relegated this narrative to the background and being something I uncovered for myself (plus the enjoyment I felt during every race) makes this among my favourite games I have ever played.

05.06.2022First time watching, love the video! On a personal note, I rather enjoy a story; It helps me feel more connected to my character. Not that games can't exist without them, obviously, but RPGs are my favorite so I tend to let that bias run loose XD

04.06.2022I found this channel from Lessons from the Screenplay. I know NOTHING about video games, but I did find this interesting – does a story enhance the experience. You have a very pleasing voice and articulate your thoughts well. Since you asked for suggestions, I think doing a more in depth exposition or analysis of one or two stories in a video would be interesting. But, as i said, not my area of expertise:)

04.06.2022A story doesn't make any game better… So no.

04.06.2022The only sport game I play is Tony hawk. Underground is one of my favorites. Idk if it's due to the story. I think it's because of the sick line missions.

04.06.2022tony hawk underground is a pretty good example of a good story in a sports game that balances customization with a solid narrative arc

04.06.2022Great video ! Found your channel through the Spider-Man videos. I'm a big fan now 😀
I was surprised about the Journey in FIFA that it did not allow to make my own character, that's all I wanted. I'd be okay with my character being silent through the cutscenes, choosing to talk on the pitch as it were. I just want Mass Effect in my FIFA is that too much to ask for 😀
