A series where the stakes were not so high India and Sri Lanka have produced two epic edge-of-the-seat battles that has kept the fans glued to their screens. India came into the series with a new looked side led by Hardik Pandya. Senior players were given the rest and it was a great opportunity to see how the youngsters perform under pressure.
India have their own issues to deal with ahead of the series decider. The top-order woes continues despite a fresh breath of air in the form of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan at the top. However Gill’s inability to play at a higher strike rate and his failures in the first two games have put a question mark on his position in the T20I side. Coming to the visitors they have actually played well in both the fixtures but couldn’t hold onto their nerves in the first game.
The Dasun Shanaka-led side showed their prowess in Pune and bludgeoned their way to a series levelling win. With the openers playing well the bowlers firing all cylinders the Lankan Lions will be relatively confident of winning the series come Saturday. A riveting battle awaits us. Will Sri Lanka achieve the unthinkable? Or will India somehow win the series?
India Team News: The hosts have a decision to make in the pace department between two misfiring quicks in Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel after India’s death bowling suffered in the second T20I.
Sri Lanka Team News: Dasun Shanaka riding high on his match-winning effort should retain the same XI that earned him series parity.
What to expect: Rajkot has always been about big runs across formats. In the four T20Is played there two wins have come while batting first the other two while bowling first.
Venue Description: A land of 30 acres was sanctioned in 2004 near the Jamnagar highway to build this state-of-the-art cricket stadium. The construction began in 2006 and almost 75 crores was spent. The media box at the venue resembles the one at Lord’s and also for the spectators to move freely there are several aisles between the seats. It also caters as a sporting complex to various other sports like badminton volleyball and basketball.
Pitch Report: The Ranji home team players Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja scored triple hundreds on this ground. That should give a fair indication as to what type of wicket we can expect here – it is of course batsmen-friendly. In the two international matches played at this venue both were high-scoring encounters. First was an ODI between England and India – the visitors scored 325 and the hosts fell short by 9 runs. The other game played here was a T20I involving Australia and India. The Aussies riding on the back of Aaron Finch’s 89 set a target of 202. Yuvraj Singh won the game for India with two balls to spare with his quickfire unbeaten 35-ball 77.
