Hello and welcome to our coverage of the fifth and final day of the 2nd Test between Pakistan and New Zealand being played at the National Stadium in Karachi. We’re into the final day of the Test series with all the four results possible today. Tim Southee’s late declaration caught Pakistan off-guard as they slipped to 0 for 2 at stumps chasing a record 319 for victory in Karachi. As things stand Pakistan still need 319 more runs off a possible 90 overs while New Zealand need 8 wickets to pocket the series. Will the hosts play for a win or will they be happy enough to secure a draw and share the spoils in the series? We’re in for a thrilling final day and a thrilling extended first session of play today.

We are all set for a thrilling encounter on the final day of the final Test of this series as all the 4 results are still possible with Pakistan needing 319 runs to win in 90 overs. But the twist in the tale is that they have lost a couple of early wickets to totter at 0/2 in 2.5 overs and it won’t be easy for the batters to stick around against the likes of Ish Sodhi Matt Henry Ajaz Patel and Tim Southee who have been terrific throughout the game with the ball in hand.

Good news for the hosts is that Imam-ul-Haq who scored 83 in the first innings is still around with a batting line up comprising of Shan Masood skipper Babar Azam Sarfaraz Ahmed and Agha Salman who can go behind the total. That will be stumps on day 4. All four results are still possible with 90 crucial overs remaining in the game but the Kiwis are ahead in the game getting 2 quick wickets. Pakistan are 319 runs away from their target and haven’t managed a single run in the 2.5 overs they have faced.

New Zealand skipper Tim Southee has picked up an early wicket off the second ball of the innings sending back Abdullah Shafique in the hut. Pakistan have scored this venue’s highest 4th innings total last year scoring 443/7 against Australia in a draw and they will be inspired to dig in and play out tomorrow. Southee used 3 different bowlers in the remaining overs with him bowling the first followed by Matt Henry and Ish Sodhi who bowled a brilliant leg break delivery to send the nigh watchman Mir Hamza back in the pavilion getting the Blackcaps on top.

The Kiwi batters looked completely different in the evening session and middled more strokes than they missed in the afternoon session with Tom Blundell and Michael Bracewell digging in to score 74 each with the latter bringing in his maiden Test 50. Agha Salman was the only bowler to take a wicket in the 3rd session for Pakistan but there were a few missed chances as well.

Southee gave himself and his bowlers 3 overs and they have made the most of it. Shafique got one that shot through low and crashed into his off-stump Mir Hamza was then cleaned up by a beauty from Ish Sodhi – Pakistan will now need 319 runs on the last day but more pertinently New Zealand are only 8 wickets away from sealing the Test the series and hand Pakistan a third straight home series loss. The day started with Pakistan losing a wicket the day has ended with them losing a wicket and in between New Zealand batted very well to score 277 runs.
